Engaging in Critical Mentoring
With Dr. Silvia Bettez
Monday, September 21, 2020
In this interactive presentation, participants will consider what it means to engage in mentoring from a critical perspective, meaning one that entails ongoing reflection, questioning, and exploration of our assumptions, as well as attention to the inevitable relationship power dynamics. Mentoring practices will be shared with and elicited from participants. This presentation is based upon a recently published chapter:
Bettez, S. C. (2020) Walking the tightrope of self-care and critical mentoring: A minoritized scholar’s reflexive account. In M. Sánchez and B. S. Waters (Eds.) How we got here: The role of critical mentoring and social justice praxis (pp. 88-106). Leiden: The Netherlands: Brill Sense.
